Help Save the Pool!

A committee has been formed to help determine the future of the George Swimming Pool.  The current pool was built nearly 50 years ago back in 1959.   An engineer’s report earlier this year found some of the deficiencies of the swimming pool to be leaks in the floor joints and inlet lines, decks that don’t slope away from the pool, non-handicap accessible, and an insufficient filtration system.

Options being explored include a major renovation which would include repairing the leaks and installing a new filtration system or building a new swimming pool.  Cost estimates range from $400,000 to renovate or $2,000,000 to build new. Grants are being looked into, but the project will also need much support from the community.

Donations for the pool may be sent to City of George, PO Box 686, George, IA 51237. If you have any questions please call Bernie or Lori at 712-475-3612.

Watch for more information in the newspapers and on the georgeiowa.com website.  We will need your support to help keep this important resource in George.
